At Radiology Associates of Richmond, we care for people who have injuries or conditions that affect the muscles, joints and bones. We use special imaging techniques to diagnose sports-related (and other) injuries and diseases, such as arthritis, osteoporosis or cancer. With minimally invasive treatments, we can carefully inject pain medicines or corticosteroids into joints to relieve pain, take a biopsy or remove fluid from around a joint with a needle (aspirate). We also treat compression fractures (broken bones) in the spine with kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty. Musculoskeletal radiology employs x-rays, CT scans, MRIs and ultrasound, sometimes with a contrast dye.
Our neurointerventional radiologists also use these techniques to diagnose and treat conditions that affect the spinal cord. Although the spine is part of the skeletal system, these interventions require special expertise because the spine protects your spinal cord and critical nerves that transmit messages from the brain.
